November 26, 2026 Meeting

Mat Coker is a Canadian photographer, writer, and educator who helps photographers see the world through the visual language of art. Drawing on 15 years of family photography, teaching, and a lifelong curiosity about how we see and make meaning, he explores the connections between photography, psychology, and everyday life. Through his writing, he offers practical ways to develop creativity, see more deeply, photograph more thoughtfully, and find greater joy in the creative process.

This presentation is a practical introduction to aquarium photography. Participants will learn to prepare their gear, choose useful lenses, and set up their cameras for the unique challenges of dark viewing areas, bright tanks, moving animals, and reflective glass.

Beyond camera settings, photographers are encouraged to create more intentional images by using the elements and principles of art and experimenting with angles, light, timing, and composition. Participants then consider how individual images can connect into a small photographic project or body of work, rather than remaining isolated snapshots.
